Reciprocal Link Code Often Has Serious Errors That Mess Up Your Site Ranking

You have to be careful when making reciprocal links. Many websites that offer HTML code for you to use don't spend enough time checking their code.

A site as an example is "http://www.traveldirectory.com.au/".

It offers quite pretty little set ups for you to put on your site. The "feature" even has a search function with a text entry window and a go button.

But beware, the code has dozens of HTML code faults, yes dozens.

If you put this HTML in your web page Google and other search engines will give up when it meets the mass of errors, and the text after the code will not be included in the search. This is bad news for you - your website will rate poorly.

Don't just assume that reciprocal link HTML is correct. Download the Firefox HTML Validator plugin and look at the code before you use it.

NON-EXISTENT LINKS

Another thing is non-existent reciprocal links. On many occasions whether you ask for a reciprocal link yourself or another site asks you, after you put their link on your page they don't honor their part of the bargain. They just assume you will not check it. Go to http://www.webconfs.com/reciprocal-link-checker.php and do a check. If they don't put your link on their site remove them from your own website. Furthermore, a link from your homepage is wonderful for the other site, but a link to their link page is useless for you. Nobody clicks on a link to a link sub-page. For a link to count it must be to and from homepages or between internal pages that are rated in their own right by Google. Basically, getting reciprocal links to directories is a waste of time and effort. They have no links on their home page and all outgoing links are on worthless sub-pages.

Open a Torrent File, Opening, Download, .torrent, Program, How Do I

The file ending in ".torrent" is just the file with the download code in it. There are just words in that file.

1. Download and install µTorrent.

2. Search Google for a torrent. Enter the name of a software program and put the word "torrent" at the end.

3. Download the needed torrent file from a website to your download folder.

4. Open µTorrent with the shortcut on the desktop.

5. Left click "File" in the top left of the program screen. Then left click "Add File".

6. Browse to the torrent file you downloaded. Double click it.

7. A "Save As" window will open with the name of the file without "tpb.torrent" at the end.

8. Click "OK". Click "Active" or "Inactive" to see the real program files download.

9. Put the cursor over the program name at the top. Three of these things could happen:

i) Right click on the name, left click "Open" and a WinRAR or WinZip folder with the needed files will open.
ii) After you left click "Open", a window warning of "unknown file" will open. Click "Yes" then install program.
iii) "Open" is grayed out. Double click the program name and a folder will open with all needed files. Install.

Follow all instructions in "README.txt" files in torrent main folder or subfolder. If you want a full working program that is.

Another option is to use Miro.

1. Download and install Miro.

2. Left click on "Sidebar" in the top left of Miro. Left click "Add Source".

3. Enter "http://thepiratebay.org/rss" or other source.

4. Pirate bay is now in the list on the left. Click Pirate Bay.

5. Enter the name of a needed software program leave out the word "torrent". It is unnecessary.

6. When you get to the list of files, click one. A description page will appear. Click "DOWNLOAD THIS TORRENT".

7. It will download in the background. Look at the list on the left. You will see "Downloading 1".

9. Click "Downloading 1" and you will see the download fill the screen with its progress. Click "Misc" on left.

10. In the top right you will see two buttons with lines across them. Click the left one.

11. All downloads will be seen. Click "Reveal in Explorer" on a file. A folder opens with all needed files.

Remove Smartware Drive, Western Digital, WD, External Hard Drive

You have bought a Western Digital external hard drive and every time you plug it in a window pops up and asks if you want to install the automatic backup software.

Now, this is jargon for Western Digital will now put a virtual drive on your computer to automatically backup your files. The problem is no one can understand how it works or how to restore the files to your computer when you want to. Don't waste your time trying to contact Western Digital - they won't respond!

There are two ways around this.

I. Disable the drive so it doesn't show in Windows Explorer or any other file program you have.

Go to "Control". Select "Classic View" in the left panel. Click "System". "Hardware", then "Device Manager".
Click the cross to the left of "DVD/CD ROM Drives".
You will see "WD Virtual CD 1110 USB Device" or similar with a different number depending on the drive you have.
Right click this. Select "Disable" from the list then right click this also. Close all the windows you have open and reboot.

Voilà! The virtual drive is not visible any more.

II. Uninstall the Smartware virtual drive.

Go to "Control". Select "Classic View" in the left panel. Click "System". "Hardware", then "Device Manager".
Click the cross to the left of "DVD/CD ROM Drives".
You will see "WD Virtual CD 1110 USB Device" or similar with a different number depending on the drive you have.
Right click this. Select "Uninstall" from the list then right click this also. Close all the windows you have open and reboot.

The files that you have manually installed on the Western Digital external drive will still be there.

Warning! Do not reformat the external drive. You will lose storage space.

An example of this a 160 GB WD external hard drive. The Western Digital virtual drive takes up 0.650 GB, leaving 159.350 GB of usable space. If you reformat it you will only have 148 GB on the whole external drive. There is an anomaly here but I am not sure what it is. You don't gain any more storage memory by hiding the virtual drive or uninstalling it. Perhaps hiding it is enough. At least you don't see it any more.

A little advice - use Paragon Backup software to store an image of your computer after a fresh Windows install when you have put your main programs on and set everything up as you want. Then in the future when your computer slows down, gets a stubborn virus you can't remove or will not System Restore any more, you can make a fresh start as you want it to be.

Internet Explorer 8 or Internet Explorer 9 show "An add on for this website failed to run" across the top of a web page, then tells you to check "Security Settings".

You check the security settings and try all combinations, but the darn message still appears!

IE8 and IE9 are very poor browsers. Microsoft technicians drink coffee all day long and generally don't know what the public wants, or ignores users complaints.

There is a simple solution that Microsoft clearly doesn't know about. Perhaps they do know and want to leave customers in a state of frustration.

SOLUTION

Go to "Tools", "Internet Options", "Security", "Restricted sites", "sites".

Cursor down until you find "doubleclick.net".

Remove it. Click "Close". Click "Okay".

It is done. You will have no more problems.

There are some websites and software that Internet Explorer 9 will not allow to run correctly. This is due to the creators of IE9 not giving a damn about consumers. People will abandon IE9 in droves if they do not correct issues with this browser.

1. First of all the important blog site like Blogspot, yes the one you are using at this very moment, cannot be satisfactorily edited. Furthermore, it will not save an article. Firefox, Chrome, Opera, they all work perfectly okay when writing and saving articles in Blogspot. IE9 is a total failure.

2. I use "keep-on-top" software when using the computer it makes the work much easier when you have many programs open, and you can keep the main program on top and minimized. Unfortunately, "Nailit" and TweakWindows" will not work with IE9. All the other browsers are alright, but IE9 does not respond.

I have gone back to IE8. If time passes me by and they no longer offer support for this browser I will unfortunately have to abandon Internet Explorer all together.

If you get an error message when trying to install Internet Explorer 9 on Vista 32-bit you have got an inferior installation file.

Go to "All Programs", "Accessories", right click "Command Prompt" and check "Run as Administrator".

Enter "sfc /scannow"

Reboot.

Go to Microsoft and download the Universal Installer.

Install IE9

WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER DOES NOT APPEAR ON MY COMPUTERS DEFAULT PROGRAMS LIST

Many people have this problem and many people use registry cleaners in their normal computer use. However, these registry cleaning programs damage your registry and mess up your happy computer time, especially when you get a seemingly stubborn problem such as this.

The first time you notice a problem is when you try to stream audio, usually from an online radio station by choosing the WMP option on the webpage. A program "tries" to download and play but it just hangs there getting to 15 per cent then going back to zero. The program will play if you choose the Real Player or the Quicktime options, though.

CANNOT PLAY STREAMING RADIO IN IE

You find that radio programs will not stream in Internet Explorer? When You click on Radio Australia for example, the "Listen Live" button", you get error messages or it just goes on trying to load the program forever. You find choosing the Real Player option works fine.

There is something missing from your registry. Registry cleaners are the culprits, all of them. Do not use them! The old registry left-overs when you uninstall programs don't do any harm. They just sit in your registry and take up minimal memory.

SOLUTION

Run these two registry changing zip files.

1.

Download this program "RegisteredAppications.zip"

Double click this zip file in the download folder.

Double click "RegisteredApplications.zip"

Click "OK" in the windows security window that pops up.

Click "OK" to merge the file into your registry.

2.

Download this program "wmp-programs-list.zip"

Double click this zip file in the download folder.

Double click "wmp-programs-list.zip"

Click "OK" in the windows security window that pops up.

By the way. If you looked in your default program list before you did the above, Windows Media Player would not have been on the list. After you change your registry with the zip files it will be back on the list.

This can be a frustrating problem. Do I leave my 2007 version of Windows Live Mail there and put up with the problem or do I save all the emails in the

Users > John Smith > AppData > Local > Microsoft > Windows Live Mail folder

There is a problem if you run Vista with the latest Windows Live Mail: for some reason you cannot make Hotmail run in it no matter how you try to set it up! It works alright in Windows7. Funny that isn't it?

SOLVING THE PROBLEM

This is how you correct the "could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed" problem.

1. In Vista go to "Start Search".

Type "regedit" and click "Enter".

Left click the arrow to the left of folder Software

Left click the arrow to the left of folder Classes

Right click the folder mailto

A window with a list of choices will appear.

Curser over "new".

Left click "String Value".

Double click "String Value".

In the window that appears type "URL Protocol".

Close Regeditor.

Your problem is now solved.

How to Make a Transparent Image, See Through, for a Website with Paint Shop Pro PSP

Make a transparent see through image.

You are frustrated because you want to make a transparent image for a website and a Google search has many suggestion, all escoteric about special html and java. All the while Paint Shop Pro is quite capable of producing a picture that you can see through quite easilly. Make a PNG image.

Save this jpeg picture "dolphins.jpg" to your "Pictures" folder.

Open Paint Shop Pro.
Open "dolphins.jpg" in PSP.

Click "Layers", "New Mask Layer", "Show all".
A window will appear. Choose "OK".
You will see a "Mask" layer and a "Raster" layer appear on the right in the "Layer" window.
"Mask - Raster 1" will be highlighted. Leave it.
Click "Layers", then "Properties".
A window appears with a "Overlay color" on the left and the "Opacity" rate in percent on the right.
Changing the color on the left will not make any difference.
Changing the opacity will, but leave it at 50%.
Click "OK".

Choose the "Flood Fill Tool" in the Toolbox on the left.
Place the curser over the picture and click the left mouse button three times.
You will see the picture become more transparent with each click.

Sometimes for some unkown reason this multi-click function will not work. There is a way around this. Click "Layers", "Properties" and "General" tab, as above. Then Choose the transparency (Opacity) you want - say 50%. Click "OK". Go ahead and use the "Fill" tool to make the image transparent.
Go to the top and click "PNG". "Transparency" tab, then "Alpha channel transparency".
Click the "Download Times" tab and you will see a download time of 14 seconds for a dial-up 56k connection. This is quite high, but with PSP you cannot make it any smaller with the transparent properties.
Click "OK" and save it as "dolphins2.png"

Open your website writing software program and insert the PNG image into a webpage.

Preview it.

You will see that the image is transparent.

AN EASY WAY

Now let's do it the easy way.
Load the dolphin.jpg image.
Double left-click the top color.
Select a shade of gray, say R.192, G.192, B.192.
Go to "Layers, "New Mask Layer" and click "Show all".
Left click the image with the "Fill" tool.
Save it as a PNG image with "Alpha channel transparency" ticked.
There you are!

Why doesn't PSP tell users that the program will create transparent images?
It would certainly help sales if they did.

And by the way. Get yourself and older Jasc Paint Shop Pro 8 version. The only bug when running it on Vista and Windows 7 is you have to begin cropping an image from the bottom right to top left. Resize any picture you are working on in this way.

The new PSP software by Corel is rubbish.

I use WYSIWYG Webbuilder. It is an excellent program for building websites and has image transparency built in so you can do it on the fly without having to directly modify the image. Another program that creates see through transparencies is Snagit, but this is complicated to use.

P.S. To make the multi-click function work:

Download the Filters which are a set of 9 bmp images.

Put the images in the "Texture" folder of PSP8.

Before you select "Layers", "New Mask Layer", "Show all" do the following:

Choose a main color like "blue".

Double left click the top color in the "Materials" window.

Tick "textures".

Choose Filter 40.

Then do "Layers", "New Mask Layer", "Show all" and continue.

Installed Quicktime on Firefox but There Is No Sound

You installed Quicktime on Firefox but there is no sound.

There are two reasons for this:

1. Webpages are written in HTML and the code orders that ".mp3", ".wav "and so on, will be played by Windows Media Player (WMP).

2. WMP is set as the default device to play all media.

Quicktime is seldom chosen by PC users as the default device but it is necessary to install Quicktime in Firefox because some webpages direct that Quicktime must play the film clip in the webpage. When Firefox is freshly installed and it detects any media in a webpage it asks whether you want to load Quicktime. This is despite the fact that it really wants WMP.

You may have to go to the Download folder, either the one in C: or the one in the user folder (your name), and double click "QuickTimeInstaller.exe" and "wmpfirefoxplugin.exe" files to install Quicktime and WMP.

When you go to any website now music and video will automatically be played by either WMP or Quicktime.

Menu Bar Is Grayed Out in IE8: Do this for all grayed out IE bars

So you installed a program and then when you opened Internet Explorer 8 the Menu Bar is grayed out and you cannot click it on.

Don't mess around with "gpedit.msc" or edit the registry. Vista Home Edition Does not allow gpedt.msc to run anyway. It is blocked for reason of that old cliche - security.

Go to "Start", "Control Panel", "Uninstall a program", "View installed updates", "Update IE8". Right click "Update IE8'. Then click "Uninstall".

Your computer will shut down and reinstall IE7.

Everything will then be okay.

Which is best IE8 or IE7.

Neither. They are both rubbish! IE9 Beta is much, much worse. It is in development now. I dumped it and went back to IE7 using Firefox for most work. IE9 Beta permanently disables the "Open File Location" function. A window keeps popping up asking you to disable Add-ons and it can't be turned off. The old "will not run ActiveX" warning window continues to annoy. Pressing "Alt" brings up the Menu Bar, but it disappears again straight away. Joining the problem solving team didn't help. They just sent silly simplistic advice that corrected nothing.

Firefox is by far the best and it doesn't have those silly security warnings that you cannot disable.

Internet Explorer safety is overrated. It is no safer than other browsers. It is just full of problems that confound the innocent Internet user - despite thousands of developers being paid millions of dollar they create a monster.

By pre-packing IE with the Windows system I believe Microsoft is breaking trading code practices in many countries. IE is built as part of the operating system when it should be totally separate.

IE Does Not Remember Name and Password: Sign into Blogger, Blogspot, the easy way

Get Auto complete working your way.

For most PCs using Internet Explorer, the Blogger Dashboard (http://www.blogger.com/home?pli=1) will not remember the name and password. Do this if your blogger sign in details are the same as your Gmail account.

Go to the Google/Blogger sign in page:
"https://www.google.com/accounts/Login?service=blogger"

Type in your username usually your email address and password.
Sign in.

You will be taken to a page with all your Google owned sites listed:
"https://www.google.com/accounts/ManageAccount?pli=1".

Note: Blogger is on the list.
No, dont click it yet!

Now right click the mouse and add the Google sign in page to "Favorites"- the "https://www.google.com/accounts/ManageAccount?pli=1" page (see this URL in IE address window).

Click Favorites at the top of IE.
Go down to the end of the Favorites list.
Note that it is there at the bottom as
https://www.google.com/accounts/ManageAccount?pli=1.

Left click on this Favorite and drag it up onto the "Favorites Bar".
Right click and rename it "Blogger Account".

Next time you open Internet Explorer go to the Favorites Bar, click on the "Blogger Account" icon. When the Gmail page opens click on "Blogger" and your into the Blogger account very quick.

Oddly, if you have signed out of your Blogger account (like at Startup) and click the "Blogger Account" icon in the Favorites Bar, the page will now probably open with the normal Blogger sign in page and the autosave name and password feature will be working! Internet Explorer is a very peculiar creature

Another odd thing is that after you have done the above, Slim Browser which works by using the IE system on the computer will load you directly into Blogger using the "http://www.blogger.com/home?pli=1&pli=1" link (note it is a different sign in page) without even asking for a name and password whether you are signed in or out of Blogger (but not IE). It makes you wonder just how many sign in pages Google and Blogger need?

P.S. Make sure "Protected Mode" is ticked in "Restricted sites", "Local intranet", Trusted sites" and Restricted sites" in Security on Internet Options. Otherwise, Blogger could keep opening IE after IE, over and over, because Internet Explorer is weird.

You have unsent messages in your Outbox. Do You want to send now?

After you close Windows Live Mail this message appears:

"You have unsent messages in your Outbox. Do You want to send now?"

This is due to an email somehow getting stuck in the system. This usually arises from the wrong email address when you last sent a message, or incorrect POP or SMTP when you set up your email program. It could also be from initially misspelling your own email address when setting up, then sending a test emal.

Do this:

Open Windows Live Mail.

At the bottom of the list of folders on the left you will see "Storage folders". Click on this folder.

Delete all of the email in this folder.

The "unsent messages" window will not be seen again when you close Windows Live Mail.

Are you fed up with warning messages such as,

"Internet Explorer restricted this webpage from running scripts on ActiveX controls"

"An add-on for this website failed to run. Check security settings in Internet options for potential conflicts"

You can turn off these warnings permanently. The security set by Internet Explorer is not replicated in other browsers like Mozilla Firefox and Opera, so why worry about turning it off?

Do this.

STEP 1.

Click "start".

Type "regedit" in "Start Search".

..........

STEP 2.

You will see "Computer" and when you click that you will see a list of folders:

The two important folders are,

HKEY_CURENT_USER and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

Let's deal with the first folder.

Open each of the following folders to get to the "exe" file by clicking the "►" sign on the left of each of them:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN

Click the folder "FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN"
You will see a couple of files on the right.
Right click "iexplorer.exe"
Left click "Modify"
You will see a "1" there. Change it to "0".

STEP 3.

Now let's deal with the second folder.

Open each of the following folders to get to the "exe" files:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
\FeatureControl\FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN

Click the folder "FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN"
You will see about 8 files on the right.
Change the following four files from "1" to "0" as you did in STEP 2:

(Right click "wmplayer.exe" for example. Left click "Modify" You will see a "1" there. Change it to "0")

"msimn.exe" may not be there. If it isn't don't worry about it. Just change the other three files. It will work anyway.

Note: You will have to do this again after about 3 months, especially it you use a registry cleaner. Don't use them!

When you see the message "An add-on failed to run on this website" or something similar depending on which version of Internet Explorer you are using go to,

"Tools", "Internet Options", "Security" tab, "Custom level..."

Select "Medium". Click "Reset".

Change the settings to look like this,

Click "OK", then "OK" again.

Close Internet Explorer. Some of the new settings will be reset by IE. Don't worry the ones you need will stay changed.

Restart IE. Enter an About website URL.

This is the main site for the problem.

The site should open without the warning because the Flash on the site should now be working.

Unfortunately, this will not always work for IE8. However, It will always work for IE9 Beta.

This is another "bug" that Internet Explorer has that is not a problem for other web browsers.

When you preview a webpage from a website building program you get this message:

"Internet Explorer restricted this webpage from running scripts on ActiveX controls"

Some webbuilding programs, for example WYSIWYG Web Builder, allow you to add "lines" to the HTML of the webpage you have built.

Go to "Page" then "Page HTML"

Choose the "Start of Page" tab.

Type
Click "OK".

It doesn't matter that it is above the command line

When you preview it next time the warning will not happen.

Note: It is safe to have this line in your webpage HTML, so you can happily upload it to your website: it is called the Mark of the Web (MOTW).

The Internet Explorer (versions 7 and 8) yellow warning line shows up at the top of some websites with this message:

"Your security settings do not allow websites to use ActiveX controls installed on your computer" or

"An add-on for this website failed to run. Check the security settings in Internet..."

They both mean the same thing: Adobe software will not run.

You can pull your hair out with this one. Try going to the "Security" tab and enabling ActiveX settings. Even with the correct settings the same thing happens.

Hold on. There is an answer. Go to "Tools", "Internet Options". Click the "Advanced" tab. Click the "Reset" button. Then click the "Reset" button that comes up in a small window.

This will...

• Disable toolbars and add-ons

• Delete temporary internet files, webpage history, cookies, web forms information and passwords.

• Reset default web browser settings, search providers and home pages.

Don't worry, Restart IE. Go to "Tools", "Manage Add-ons", and "Enable or Disable Add-ons"

Your add-ons are still there. Enable them.

When you go to sites that need a name and password sign in, you will have to re-enter them. You only have to do it once for each site.

Note. It would be advisable to uninstall Adobe Shockwave Player and Adobe Flash Player before you reset IE.

Problem When Changing Your Internet Provider to Telstra - Rapid Transfer and the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman

When you change to Telstra from an existing Internet provider you are not told about a delay in the changeover.

Telstra runs a system called Rapid Transfer, but it is a complete mess. It is not rapid at all. If you contact your existing Internet provider, Telstra cannot use this method. Consequently, you have to wait up to week with no Internet connection.

Consumers know nothing about rapid transfer nor what will happen if you email or phone your existing provider. Telstra knows about this issue but it does not intend to tell consumers.

When I contacted the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman I was insulted by him. His name is Warrick McArthur. He said I was just moaning because I wanted the world to work my way and I should accept the situation. This body is supposed to help consumers not the telecommunication companies.

Getting Sound Through Computer Speakers from the Microphone

If you want your computer microphone to play sound through the computer speakers you can try techarena.

However, if you have a newer version of sound software this may not work. I have a Dell computer with Realtek sound software. I tried following the instructions on the above site but my software doesn't have an "options" tab.

There is a way:

1. Go to the Start menu and enter "regedit" in the start search window.

3. Navigate through the registry by using the folder + signs in the left pane to get to this location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Cl ass\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000\Settings\

7. Right click on "ForceDisableJD".

8. Left click "Modify".

9. In the 'Value data' box, add 01 to the existing 0000 to make it "0000 01". If you have "0000 00" change it to "0000 01" then click OK.

10. Exit the Registry and restart the computer.

11. After restart, right click the sound program tray icon. Left click "Audio Devices". Right click "Speakers". Left click "Properties". Left click "levels" tab. Move "Microphone" and "FrontMic" markers to the right on the slide control.

12. Click "OK".

You are ready to speak into the microphone and hear the sound from the computer speakers.

Turn up the volume and away you go.

The Australian Government is about to introduce a filtering system for Internet web sites. Until now I have stayed out of the debate believing it to be good. But the government has overstepped the mark in banning the site set up by Dr Phillip Nitschke. On the site he allows the download of a book on how to end a life in the most "comfortable" manner possible. The majority of people will never need this book. For those who do, however, the information offered is needed and appreciated. They do have the right to access this material.

There is a way to bypass the obstruction set up by the Federal Government. It is quite straightforward. Being an Australia you have the legal right to surf the Internet from an Internet provider based overseas (note, this is also a way to watch television programs,music and video that is available to citizens of that country). The cost is just a few dollars for the Internet Provider based in Ireland that gives access to the BBC and other British programs. At the current exchange rate it is less than $10 a month.

To get this service go to My Private Network. It shows the cost is £5 a month. When you click the "SIGN UP NOW" it shows £10. You should still be able to get the special offer, however. Sign up with a bankcard or debit card.

You will get an email with the link my-private-network get-started. Remember your login name and password because you will have to contact "Support" to get it sent to you again. Go straight to the Get Started link if you have Vista. Enter your details as shown. That's it. You can change from your existing IP to the overseas one by going to the start menu and clicking "Connect To".

When you surf using the overseas IP note that you will be treated as if you are a British national. That means you have access to a lot of useful things.

Just put "/#bookmark4" for example after the webpage URL.

Say the page address is,

How To Make a Program Stay on Top, Keep on Top, Always

Have you ever wanted a program to stay on top when you use other programs?

Use TweakWindow or Nailit.

Maybe you want to take notes from a webpage in Notepad.

There is a way to do it. Software programs are available, but be careful, some of them have bugs that either slow your computer down or send out information about computer use. A program that spies on you is " Nail it". You can tell it is spying because it takes a long time to actually turn on. An antispyware program will stop this. Once you stop the feedback you are okay.

An absolutely safe program is "TweakWindow". It was created a long time ago, so it will work on Vista only in a certain way. If safety is important to you, however, use this program.

Install it in the usual way.

The only problem is the buttons will not appear on the menu bar of the program on top, as "TweakWindow" intends. It does still work within the program, however: if you place the curser on the menu bar (actually the area right at the top of the screen) of notepad or another program on top, then right click. You can choose what you want to do from the list that appears. You will probably find that the "tweak Window" menu appears at the top of programs after the computer is rebooted a few times.

When it is installed you will have an icon on the desk top. Click this icon.

Internet Explorer or Firefox will already be running. Open Notepad. Now hold down "Alt", press and hold "F1", click and hold "curser" on Notepad, release "F1" then "Alt". Click the curser anywhere again. You will see that "Notepad" is on top and you can see through it. If you want to see a solid "Notepad" right click on the "TweakWindow". Choose "Options". Then untick "Make window transparent when it stays always on top"

Remember you can make a program stay on top by right clicking the menu bar and choosing from the list.

To free-up the program on top hold down "Alt", press and hold "F1", click and hold "curser" on Notepad, release "Alt and "F1".

That is all there is to it.

NAILIT

This program is like Tweakwindow and it many ways it is simpler. Just download the Nailit exe file. Create a new folder in "Program Files". Put the Nailit.exe file into the folder. Right click and drag the file onto Desktop and make a new shortcut.

To stop the keep-on-top function of both programs working just close the "switched on" browser and re-open it.

Note: You can have more than one program on top.

How to Make RSSfeedreader PHP "script" Work on Your Server

Today, I am pleased to announce that the RSSfeedreader website is working again.

This is how you get your site to run PHP files created by RSSfeedreader:

PART ONE

Putting Info into the .htaccess file

Open your FTP program.

go to the main folder "/public_html/"

a) Right click on ".htaccess" and click "edit". The file will open straight away or you may have to click "overwrite" depending on your FTP program.

b) If you don't see an ".htaccess" file, create it by opening notepad.

Now, in both instances a) and b) above you will have notepad open.

Some of you will see

AddHandler server-parsed .htm
AddHandler server-parsed .html"

already there. That is okay.

This is the important part.

Make sure all of the following is in that notepad page:

AddHandler server-parsed .htm
AddHandler server-parsed .html
suPHP_ConfigPath /home/loginname/public_html/

The "loginname" is the name you enter into your FTP program (with a password of course but no password in this instance) to be able to put files onto your server.

Save the notepad page with this name ".htaccess.php"
It will save as "htaccess.php.txt but you will not be able to remove the "''txt" on your computer because the file name begins with a "."

Upload the ".htaccess.php.txt" file to the "/public_html/" directory.
Delete the old ".htaccess,php" if you already have it.
Right click on the ".htaccess.php.txt" file.
Click "rename"
Delete the ".txt" part of the name.
The FTP program may ask if it is alright to change it, but click "OK".

PART TWO

Creating the php.ini file

Open notepad. Write this, or copy it, into the notepad page.

register_globals = On ;
allow_url_include = On ;

Save it as "php.ini"

It will save as "php.ini.txt"

Upload the "php.ini.txt" file to the "/public_html/" directory.
Right click on the "php.ini.txt" file.
Click "rename"
Delete the ".txt" part of the name.
The FTP program may ask if it is alright to change it, but click "OK".

If you already have a "php.ini" Right click on it and put the extra code in it using notepad.
Delete the old ".htaccess,php"
Upload the "php.ini.txt" file to the "/public_html/" directory.
Right click on the "php.ini.txt" file.
Click "rename"
Delete the ".txt" part of the name.
The FTP program may ask if it is alright to change it, but click "OK".

USING THE RSSFEEDREADER WEBSITE

Go to the site. Register your name, email and website address.

Look in your email.

Enter the URL of your desired news feed after the "http://"

Make sure you put the "www." in, for example http://www.feeds.news.com.au/public/rss/2.0/news_mostpopular_topstories_403.xml

if the "www." address doesn't work try,

http://feeds.news.com.au/public/rss/2.0/news_mostpopular_topstories_403.xml

The feed URLs can be really fussy about the "www." Some need it, some don't.

Enter the information on how you want the feed to look.

For page width enter the width In "Feed Width"

Don't bother about "Choose New Page Options"

Click "get RSS Feed"

Copy the PHP script.

Paste it into a notepad page.

Saving the PHP file

Save it as "rssfeedyourfilename.php" into the "/public_html/" directory with your FTP program.

Right click on the file, choose rename, and remove the ".txt"

Enter the "include virtual" code,

as RSSfeedreader info advises, into your website html code at the position in the page where you want it.

Save the html. Upload it to the "/public_html" directory on your server.

Give up on RSS Feedreader PHP - It Will Not Work!

Feedreader has been giving out useless PHP "scripts" for months. The conclusion has been reached by all - that it simply does not work!

Rssfeedreader told me to do this,

"Please create a php5.ini file and set allow_url_include,register_globals ON. Currently they are OFF in php configuration. You can create php5.ini by yourself. But the best way is to contact your host support."

My host support refused to do this because of security reasons. I suggest that RSSfeedreader changes the way its system operates. It can do this, or people will ignore their site!

How to Make RSSfeedreader PHP "scipt" Work on Your Server

Include PHP works okay. So I would advise people to go to that site. But remember if you use their newer version you can only have 10 PHP "Scripts" before you are shut out. They expect you to pay a yearly fee to have more. You can use their basic version as many times as you like and to be honest, the output is quite good for most websites.

The Include site can be a bit confusing. Their basic PHP scripts are at the bottom of the Home page. You will have to scroll down or you will not see it. Just enter the XML or RSS address of the feed you want on your webpage. Choose the three color options (that is enough) choose the width, usually 900, then click "create HTML".

If you want to use the newer version register an email address with them. Wait, then click on the register url in the email you get. *Go the Include site click the http://www.rssinclude.com/ button. Then on the new page that comes up click "Create A New RSSbox". Another page will appear: click "Create this RSSbox" in the "Simple Vertical List" square.

There is a problem: after you put your rss/xml address in and edit, save, then preview your feed you will be asked to login. When you do you will have to go through all the above again (from*). Then you will get your PHP script.

Save this PHP script in notepad. Then save it as "rssfeedyourfilename.php" into a folder on your computer. Go to that folder and you will see the file as "rssfeedyourfilename.php.txt". Right click on the file. Choose "Rename". Get rid of ".txt".

Save the "rssfeedyourfilename.php" file into the main folder on your website server with an FTP program.

To make it work add this address to the HTML of your webpage where you want the feed to show:

Save your website HTML , for example "index.html", to the main folder on your server with an FTP program.

SETTING UP YOUR COMPUTER FOR PHP

You will have to create a file on your computer. Open notepad and write these two lines on the left side of the page,

"AddHandler server-parsed .htm
AddHandler server-parsed .html"

without the quotation marks.

Save it as ".htaccess" into a folder on your computer. It will save as ".access.txt. Your computer will not allow you to remove the "".txt" because the file begins with a dot.

You have to open your FTP program and load the file into the main directory of your website server. In the right column, "your /public_html/" directory, right click on the ".access.txt" file. Choose "rename" and remove the ".txt.

Your computer is now set to run PHP.

Php Only Includes the First Line of Articles in Website Keywords Seen by Google

Beware of what php rss feed programs claim! If you manage to get php working on your site only the words in the first line of each article will be included in your website words when it is crawled by Google, Yahoo, etc. So the claim by RSS Feedreader and Include are incorrect. This means only those words you can actually see written under each article title when your webpage is displayed will be included in your site's key words. Authors who put feeds together will often paraphrase the first paragraph of an article. If this happens none of the articles text with be caught by Google when it checks your site.

Remember only the text actually displayed in the RSS articles on your webpage can be seen by Google - usually one sentence per article. Choose RSS sites with your keywords in the first line.

Another thing is that in "most cases" no words will be gleaned if the feed address has an ";rss" or ".rss" address, though many "/rss" and "=rss" addresses will work. Some will, some won't. Be sure to use feeds with ".xml" addresses if you want to have words that are seen by Google and Yahoo!

Though words are visible under each title in a feed with an "RSS" address, they are not usually visible to Google.

With rss addresses, keywords will show when you check the feed site with a keyword checking site, but they will not show when you have ".php" files on your server containing Include script for example, and you put links to the ".php" files in your webpages.

These problems are due to the way your server is set. Web hosting companies do not like to tell you how to turn off server protection. In fact they go out of their way to refuse changes.

Neither Adobe Flash Player nor Adobe Shockwave Player will play SWF files that are in files on your computer. It will be necessary to install a program that will do this. Flash MX is an Adobe program that will do this.

INSTALLING ADOBE FLASH MX

Go to:

You will find the Flash MX exe file and the registration serial in the folder that will be installed when you double click this zip file.

Right click on an SWF file in your folder that holds them, such as "Pictures" or "My Pictures".

Click on "Browse" ensuring that "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" box is ticked.
Go to the "Macromedia" folder, then "Flash MX" folder" and click on the "Flash.exe" file.

Your computer is now set to open all SWF files with Macromedia Flash MX.

Go to the folder that has your SWF files. Double click an SWF flash picture icon that is in your open window. The file will be opened and played by Flash MX. Click "Use default" in the "missing Font Warning" window if necessary.

Go to "File", "Open", then double-click on an SWF picture file in the folder window that opens. Maybe you will have to browse there. You will see the SWF file in action.

I Get "you do not have administrator privileges" Error When Installing Xplorer2Pro

Xplorer2 Pro will enter "markers" into your registry if you enter the serial incorrectly the first time, then uninstall it and reinstall the program.

From then on if you right click the "xplorer2_UC.exe" file then click on "Run as Administrator' the program will turn itself on and an error window will display saying that you do not have administrator privileges.

If you enter the serial again at this point the program will not accept it.

It is no good contacting the company that sells Xplorer2 Pro. They are only interested in getting your money. They have your money so they will not help you if you enter the serial incorrectly the first time.

The only answer is to go to "Start". Then in the enter box that will appear in the lower left hand corner type in "regedit". Go to "Edit" then "Find" in the registry window. Type in "xplorer2". Click "Find Next", then delete the file or folder at the point where the search stops. Click "Find Next" and delete the files or folder where it stops again. Go on doing this until the end of the registry is reached - about six times. Close the registry window. Reboot.

You may have to install Norton Anti-UAC from this site before you reinstall Xplorer2Pro:

This will make sure you gain access to all files and folders, thus overriding Vista UAC. In future when a Vista warning window appears click the square "do not ask me again" and the computer will never give a warning window again when you open that program.

Now if you reinstall Xplorer2Pro. Go to "xplorer2_UC.exe" file then click on "Run as Administrator' the program will turn itself on and an error window will display saying that you do not have administrator privilege. An "Enter serial number" window will appear. If you enter the serial now the program will register. When you close the program and turn it on again the program will be registered.

THE TWO METHODS OF STOPPING UAC WARNING WINDOWS POPPING UP WHEN YOU START A PROGRAM

Method One by altering computer settings.

Method Two by using the Norton anti-UAC program.

METHOD ONE

There is a way of disabling UAC for a program by "tinkering" with the computer.

Type "task" in Start Search after clicking the Start menu.

Click "Task Scheduler" from the list that appears. A window opens.

Click Create Task.

Choose the General Tab.

Enter a word significant to you in the Name square.

Tick Run with highest privileges.

Choose the Settings tab

Tick Allow task to run on demand.

Click OK. Then close window.

Right click on a blank area of the Desktop. Click New, Shortcut.

In the Shortcut window enter: schtasks /run /tn “myprogramname“

Enter the name of your shortcut. Click Finish

The shortcut is now ready to be placed in a suitable location and used.

Note: When you click the shortcut you will briefly see a small DOS window before the program starts.

METHOD TWO

A much better way to stop the UAC warning window opening is to install the program developed by Norton Labs. It is an excellent program which does the job well.

Click Start Menu, Control Panel then Classic View.

Choose Device Manager.

Display the chip name by expanding the folders, i.e.,

click the computer name folder then Computer folder.

You will see that this computer has an "X86" chip. This is important. Write it down.

Close all the windows.

Open Internet Explorer and type this into the top window of IE:

Press Enter.

In the window which opens, enter the name of your country.

Also tick "I certify that this...."

Press Get It! and a new page opens.

Press either Download for x86 or Download for x64 according to the chip in your computer that you wrote down earlier.

Now, this is the action part.

When you click the shortcut of some programs in the future a new type of UAC window will appear created by Norton. Tick the box next to "Don't ask me again" in this Norton window if you do not want a UAC window to appear again for a program.

You now have what you want - a way to stop UAC warning windows ever opening again!

THE TWO METHODS OF STOPPING UAC WARNING WINDOWS POPPING UP WHEN YOU START A PROGRAM

Method One by altering computer settings.

Method Two by using the Norton anti-UAC program.

METHOD ONE

Click Create Task.

Choose the General Tab.

Enter a word significant to you in the Name square.

Tick Run with highest privileges.

Choose the Settings tab

Tick Allow task to run on demand.

Click OK. Then close window.

Right click on a blank area of the Desktop. Click New, Shortcut.

In the Shortcut window enter: schtasks /run /tn “myprogramname“

METHOD TWO

A much better way to stop the UAC warning window opening is to install the program developed by Norton Labs. It is an excellent program which does the job well.

Click Start Menu, Control Panel then Classic View.

Choose Device Manager.

Display the chip name by expanding the folders, i.e.,

click the computer name folder then Computer folder.

You will see that this computer has an "X86" chip. This is important. Write it down.

Close all the windows.

Open Internet Explorer and type this into the top window of IE:

Press Enter.

In the window which opens, enter the name of your country.

Also tick "I certify that this...."

Press Get It! and a new page opens.

Press either Download for x86 or Download for x64 according to the chip in your computer that you wrote down earlier.

With the latest computers you will download the NUACx86.exe file.

Double click this file to install it.

Now, this is the action part.

You now have what you want - a way to stop UAC warning windows ever opening again!
